A COAST-BASED business that provides online support for caravan parks has won a major competition organised to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast.
Massey Online Management, which is based in the centre, won the $20,000 major prize in the National Business Pitch competition on Saturday night.
MOM was one of seven businesses that presented a business plan to an audience of 170 business people, entrepreneurs, investors and community representatives.
Its fusion of technology and tourism was described by Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts Ros Bates as "a prime example of a small business in this thriving region using innovation to drive their business growth".
Ms Bates, a guest at the awards, said it reinforced the importance of innovation incubators, highlighting the facility's history of creating 350 local jobs and generating $24 million in investment since 2002.
"Over 34,500 registered businesses across a diverse range of industries now call the Sunshine Coast home - and it appears this number will only continue to grow," she said.
"Innovation is the key to managing growth, working smarter to lift productivity, boosting jobs, harnessing our natural resources and enhancing our economic resilience and sustainability."
The competition, similar to the ABC's Dragons' Den, was designed to encourage entrepreneurship and new business on the Coast.
MOM founder and CEO Kath Massey said winning the competition would help the company get its message out to the broader community about taking more holidays, spending them in Australia and staying in a holiday park.
"We are passionate about Australian tourism and the holiday park industry and feel fortunate to have a found a way to promote both," Ms Massey said.
