Fuel spill closes Brisbane road

EMERGENCY crews are grappling with a massive fuel spill that has closed one of Brisbane's crucial rush-hour thoroughfares.

A number of fire service crews are working on the Breakfast Creek Road scene in Newstead where 2,500 litres of petrol.

Brisbanetimes.com.au reported one outbound lane of Breakfast Creek Rd (heading towards Kingsford Smith Dr) is closed and traffic is congested in the area, police said.

It is understood the spill from the station's underground container had been contained, and emergency crews have applied a foaming agent to the petrol that had leaked above ground.

Motorists are urged to be drive carefully in the area.
