A MAN was rushed to hospital and city commuter traffic was thrown into a spin when a truck and a train collided in Brisbane on Friday.

At 6:30am, a northbound Sandgate train hit a truck on a level rail crossing at Banyo, on Brisbane's northside.

The trailer and the cab of the truck were ripped apart, with the trailer ending up lodged between the train and another train waiting at the crossing.

The 45-year-old driver of the truck was rush to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious leg injuries.

Paramedics assessed 14 other patients, who were passengers on the train and the train driver but no one else was transported to hospital.

Rail services and road traffic were disrupted all day.

Police traffic Inspector Mark Laing said the truck was stationary on the level rail crossing and the truck driver was out of the truck when it was hit.
