CAT Trucks' new CT630SC is a strong contender in the B-double market.
Recently Big Rigs was invited on a road trip between Townsville and Rockhampton, part of the Cat Trucks recent road show in Queensland.
That road show was about showing people exactly what Cat Trucks have on offer around the state.
Included in that demonstration was the new CT630SC which was released after the CT630S earlier this year.
These models follow on from the CT630LS which was launched at the Brisbane Truck Show two years ago.
The newest model also boasts a spacious sleeper cab and was designed for linehaul with a short distance from bumper to back of cab - which allowed for a bigger sleeper.
It is ideally suited to the 26m, 34 pallet B-double sector.
I was able to ride passenger in the SC. Respected transport journalist Steve Brooks was my driver.

Leather steering wheel and seats made the experience that much nicer and driving at night I was able to experience firsthand the difference LED headlights make.
One of the best things about these Cat models is the great forward vision; you don't even notice the bonnet of the truck, it doesn't obstruct your vision at all. That's thanks to the sloped hood.
The truck also handled very well, the steering wheel staying true even on the pocked and uneven Bruce Hwy.
In the SC there was a C15 motor under the hood with 550hp which pulled well with a B-double on. We had about 52 ton on the back.
The dash layout of the truck is good, everything where it should be.
MY STAY in the five-star CT630 superior cab model was very comfortable.
The spacious sleeper has been designed for people who sleep in their truck every night, long-haul drivers, and the extra width was appreciated.
Designed and built in Australia, the SC sleeper is a 40-inch mid-rise design with a generous 2250mm of internal width and full 1975mm of standing room.
So even drivers more than six-feet tall can comfortably stand in the cab.
A 711mm wide fully-sprung mattress comes standard.
The SC also has large toolbox lockers on sides with external and internal access, a storage area under the bunk where an optional fridge can sit and a scalloped rear wall to optimise clearances between the rear of the cab.
I slept in the cab at a roadhouse in Rockhampton after a road trip from Townsville; I was ready for bed by the time we got into town.
